At 6:30 AM on Monday February 19, a stray bullet shattered the window of a neighbor’s house near Tano Drive and Mandan Lane.
Other neighbors reported hearing several gunshots at that time, although there were different accounts of how many shots were fired. Fortunately, nobody was hurt by the bullet which entered a room that was occupied just prior to the incident.
Florida statue 790.15 makes it illegal to discharge a firearm in any residential neighborhood with lot sizes of less than one acre which includes most of Halifax Plantation Phase 1. Self-defense is the only permissible exception; shooting at targets or wild animals is clearly prohibited.
This incident is under investigation by the police, and any information should be reported immediately to the Sheriff’s office.
Let’s help keep our community safe by observing the law and following proper gun safety practices when handling any firearms.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Again, thanks.
