Alert: Attempted Burglary!!
On Friday March 16th, around 12:30 in the afternoon, homeowner’s on Acoma Drive were sitting inside their house having lunch. A car backed into the driveway of the house adjacent to their home. Two young men brazenly went from the neighbor’s driveway into their garage and began to rummage through both cars that were parked in the garage. The suspects were most likely looking for the cars keys or other valuables. An observant neighbor noticed a third suspect sitting in the parked car in the driveway and ran out and scared them off.
Police arrived and took statements and fingerprints. Although the alert neighbor was able to record the license plate numbers it turned out in this case to be of no avail. The car was later found abandoned and the plates had been stolen from another car. The police stated that there have been many cars stolen in our area. The police advised that cars should be locked at all times, even when they are parked in your garage.
As this incident was being shared with another neighbor and he was being warned to keep his garage doors and cars locked he decided to check his garage. The neighbor found one of his cars had been broken into. Police were called back for a report. The officer also warned that garage remotes are a target.
Phase 2 has also reported that there have been thefts in their neighborhood while garage doors are left open. According to Joe Hodges, of Phase 2, the suspects (3) have been cruising the area and if they spot an open garage, two will jump out and enter the garage taking items from unlocked cars all during daylight hours. If you spot the car call the VCSO on their non-emergency line 386-239-8276. If you witness a crime in progress call 911.
If you see something say something….as our observant neighbor did this past Friday
